MEMPHIS STAKES ANNOUNCED. Memphis, Tenn., December 9. The New Memphis Jockey Club is the first western club in the field with the announcement of stakes for the season of 1304. Ten stakes are offered that will close for entries January 2, 1904. Eight of these stakes will be decided at the spring meeting of 1904 and two, the Tennessee Derby with 5,000 added and the Tennessee Oaks with ,000 added, to be decided at the spring meeting of 1905. The Derby and Oaks for the coming spring meeting closed last January. The stakes offered are as follows: for 1905, the Tennessee Derby, distance nine furlongs, ,000 added; estimated value 0,000. The Tennessee Oaks, one mile, ,000 added; estimated value ,000. For 1904, the Memphis Stakes, distance five furlongs, ,000 added; estimated value ,000. The Gaston Hotel Stakes, four furlongs, ,000 added; estimated value ,000. The Ardelle Stakes, four furlongs, ,000 added; estimated value ,200. For three-year-olds, the Hotel Gayoso Stakes, distance one mile, ,000 added; estimated value ,200. For three-year-olds and upward, the Montgomery Handicap, distance one and one-sixteenth miles, ,000 added; estimated value ,500. The Peabody Hotel Handicap, nine furlongs, ,500 added; estimated value ,000. The Tennessee Brewing Co. Selling Stakes, seven furlongs, ,000 added; estimated value ,500. The Cotton Steeplechase, about two miles, ,500 added; estimated value ,700. There will be no purse offered of less than 00. The Tennessee Derby is increased in value from ,000 added to ,000 added; the Montgomery Handicap, from ,500 added to ,000 added; the Peabody Hotel Handicap, from ,000 added to ,500 added. In the Montgomery and Peabody Hotel Handicaps, the winner of each will receive a silver cup or plate to the value of 00.
