Little Elkin ran in much improved form, laid in behind Past until well around the far turn, came wide at the turn Into the homestretch and, finishing in the good going, came away as his rider pleased in the stretch run. He was sore going to the post and the soft track just suited him. Trocadero was bumped into and crowded back at the start, ran next to the inside rail all the way, closed a big gap on the backstretch and caught the leaders at the three-eighths post, but tired in the last sixteenth. Joe Doughty and Jack Doyle fought it out sharply all of the last furlong, the former staying best. Past was off well in motion and set the pace under restraint, but tired after going a mile and was eased up when beaten.
