The Regent secured a lucky start, was off well in motion and escaped interference at the first turn, showed the most speed and won easing up. Satire was crowded back at the start and had to squeeze through on the inside at the first turn, went to the outside in the run down the backstretch, was much used in getting to the leaders and tired when he got to The Regent. Malay met with a lot of interference in the early struggle and closed a big gap. Alpaca ran in improved form. H. L. Coleman was a keen contender for the first six furlongs, but was tiring in the last furlong and his rider eased him up. Burke Cochran was off badly and made up much ground.
