Won driving; second the same. Arthur Ray, suddenly improved, was skillfully reserved in close attendance on the leaders to the stretch, where he made good in game fashion. Idogo beat his field away at the start and was placed in behind the early pacemaker hard held for a half, where he took a slight lead and seemed the winner when straightened for home, surrendering in the last furlong to the winner. Rlilouon was shuffled back on the first turn and thereafter steadily improved his position, scoring a lucky and tiring third. Plan, nearly knocked out of the, race on the far turn, closed a big gap and finished with a rush. Burdock had a rough journey in inadequate hands and came from a long way back in the stretch run. Tamm, very badly ridden, made up a tremendous lot of ground in the last six furlongs. El Ori-ente ran out on the stretch turn and tired all over at the end. Gibraltar showed early speed. Military Man forced the pace to the stretch, where he came away in decisive fashion and was much the best. Dargin ran under waiting tactics early in the race, then went up on even terms with the winner, and after a sharp brush, succumbed, tiring badly in the closing drive. Flea held on steadily in third position throughout and was going fast at the end. Virginia Boy went moderately well. Scratched 40256Sacredus, 110. Military Man, show, out. Dargin, show, out. Landslip trained by A. F. Dayton. Went to post at 2:56. At post 3 minutes. Start good. Won handily; second the same. Soufriere, evidently a superior class filly in heavy going, held a forward position to the stretch, where she closed up with a meteoric rush and won going away. Lansdown, also improved in form on a difficult track, was a prominent contender throughout, and finishing fast, ran a cracking good race. Albemarle improved his position throughout and was coming like a cyclone at the finish. Futurita, away badly and inadequately handled, held an inside position in the worst going throughout and was easily the best, was forced out of good position at the half to nearly last, and closing up gamely, finished with plenty in reserve. Cardwellton, away poorly, ran up into striking distance of the leaders and held on steadily to the end. Reeves was unable to raise a respectable gallop and ran a bad race. Alice Cary was outclassed here. Fort Wayne showed superior speed for five furlongs, but failed to stay. Glendenning tired after a brilliant display of speed and will make good on a Scratched 43131 Bummer, 106; 431533The Cure, S6. Soufriere, show, 3 to 1. Lansdown, show, 2 to 1. Albemarle, show, evens. Winner Br. h, by Sir Modred Queen Bess, trained by H. Stover. Kenilworth got away running and forced the pace to the stretch, where he was momentarily headed by Royal Rogue, which he subsequently outstayed in a long closing drive. Royal Rogue ran a high class race in spite of his dislike for the going and would probably have won but for the loss of a stirrup leather at the start. He got away slowly in consequence and a good deal was taken out of him to get up to the winner. Iredeus trailed the leaders closely throughout, just about holding his own at the end. Muresca showed a fine burst of speed for half the distance, tiring badly in the stretch and was far outclassed in her present form. No show betting. d.3239 FIFTH RACE 1 Mile and 70 Yards. Silurian got away running and raced into a long lead and appeared like making a runaway race of it, but tiring badly and swerving across the track at the end, he gained a lucky decision. Caronal, away flatfooted and bumped on the first turn, closed up like a streak from last place in the middle half of the running and finally wore the leaders down at the end. Royalty showed astonishingly improved form and held on gamely in a long closing drive. Cougar, under a bad ride, fell to the rear immediately and appeared to be busy fouling the favorite, could never get up into contention and ran a bad race. Prince Blazes tired right at the end after showing improved form. Scratched 43216 Illowaho, 107. Silurian, show, 2 to 5. Caronal, show, 1 to 5. Royalty, show, 2 to 1. SIXTH RACE 7-8 Mile. At post 2 minutes. Start fair. Won driving; second the same. Harrv Thatcher got away running and making most of this advantage, raced quickly into a long "lead, but tiring badly and swerving all over the course, he only lasted long enough after a long drive. Rey Dare, lucky and skillfully ridden, trailed within striking distance to the far turn, where he moved up fast and saved second place after a game finish. Bill Massie got away slowly and fell far out of the early running, commenced to move up at the half and when straightened out in the stretch, started through with a rush, but was crossed and thrown back by the winner, destroying all his chance of winning, although he was wearing the leaders down very fast in the closing strides and was easily best. El Chihuahua held a prominent position throughout and ran an extra good race. Achilles got away badly and was never dangerous, although he finished well. Chorus Boy broke flatfooted and quickly fell out of it, closed a big gap, however, in the last half. Axminster was nearly left and made up a lot of ground. Scratched 43202 Diderot. 112.
