New Orleans, La., January 3. Bad weather kept down the attendance at both tracks today. The races were run In deep mud. At City Park the mile and seventy yards handicap was ruined hy t scratches, Grenade, Shawanu and Garnish being j withdrawn. This was the creaui of the entries and the stewards declared the race oft. The feature race was the dush for the baby racers. Baleshed, winner , of the first two-year-old event of 1900, won it and acquitted himself nobly. He ran coupled with his stable companion Chamblet and the pair were at , odds on. They were not well backed, however, for there was a doubt in the minds of the speculators , as to whether Baleshed could travel in the mud. Ainberita was bid up 00 over her entered price by U. 7. De Annan, hut was protected and bought in by her owners. Steeplechase 3ockey Tom MeHugb today signed a contract to ride in the east during the coming season for George A. Saportas. Cascine was ordered scratched from the first race by the officials. The horse was identified all right, but was not entered in his owners name. The party given as trainer also denied having the horse in charge. Cascine was supposed to be a good thing and would have been heavily backed had he started. He was brought over from the old track this morning and there seemed a good deal of mystery about the horse. Ed ViveJI, -nnfldential. ..mtfnjTojrMesM. Chambers Ac" Walker, arrived from Porto Itico yesterday and left this morning for Los Angeles. Vivell has a plantation in Porto Rico. James Boland purchased of Iat Dunne at private sale this morning the three-year-old Ezra. E. K. Bradley arrived from Chicago this morning, lie will leave next week for Palm Beach, Florida, where he will spend the remainder of the winter. Numerous scratches at Crescent Park riddled a card that in its original state had been considered a fair one. Twenty bookmakers occupied stands, but business was light. SI. D. Miller, who has been severely criticised for repeatedly putting up bad riders on his horses, secured the services of jockey Cherry to pilot Sea Voyage In the first race. The result was gratifying, the filly winning much as her rider pleased. Miller also won the last race with Sincerity Belle, but her victory cost the owner 00. She was bid up by S. Louis, owner of Henry 0.. which finished third. Newton Bennington won the two-year-old race, his third this week. The winner today was Round Dance, a fine looker by Dleudonne Court Dance. He won In a romp. Dan K.. which was carded to start in the opening race, had to be withdrawn by order of the judges because of lack of identification. Jockey Livingston, on Baywood, claimed a foul against Sea Voyage after the finish of the first race. It was not allowed. Pasadena, owned by A. C. McCafferty. has had the firing irons applied to his legs and will be given a lotig rest. f S. C. Hildrelh disposed of Potheen to W. H. Cissua. The latter, is a newcomer to the ranks. He has appHed for a trainers license. A. D. Lockhart purchased today from M. .7. Daly the colt Welsh and will race him at the old track in future. ambler has been purchased by . G. Parke at private terms and will hereafter be a starter at the old track, George Webb, who was suspended recently for having hid up Paul Clifford and then failing to make good the purchase price, was today restored to favor. The Uue of 00 Imposed on him for the offense was paid.
