Jake Ward, on the inside and outpaced early, gradually overhauled the leaders and, nailing Blumenthal in the last stride, won drawing clear. The latter tired badly after injudicious close pursuit of a fast non-stayer like Smithy Kane anil, being eased up and unprepared, succumbed right at the end, but was much the best. Creed-more ran forward!- to the stretch, where he tired, but easily outstayed Smithy Kane. The last named forced a stiff early pace, but was quitting all over in the last furlong. Santa Ray decisively outbroke, outpaced and outstayed her opponents. Lovey Mary came fast from the rear and finished fast, running a cracking race. Niota followed the winner closely for five furlongs and tired. Saintolat. palpably short, showed good speed, met with early interference and finished well. Nettle Hicks, badly messed about and shut off. failed to stay. Miss Topsy closed a big gap In the last half. Chispa, away badly, made up considerable ground. Rockland was a prominent contender throughout, finished like a shot and should have been second. Jerry Hunt steadily improved his position and was going fast at the end. Mocorito, handicapped by the going, made up ground. Prominence ran well to the stretch arid tired suddenly. Klzil maintained a fairly forward position to the stretch, where he tired. Tavora ran badly and was never dangerous and probably dislikes the track. Fullctta, away slowly, was always outpaced and palpably handicapped by the going. Chief Bush, in an extra good effort, held a forward position and finished well on the outside. Hainault, away slowly, showed .1 glimpse of ids old-time speed, then tired. Bountiful failed to stay from a poor start. Bill Curtis was not good enough here. Lone Wolf, knocked back at the start, closed a gap, but likes stiffer going best.
