ANOTHER RECORD IS TIED. COLLOQUY RUNS THREE AND ONE-HALF FURLONGS IN :413 AT CITY PARK. Seven Favorites Are Beaten Minnie Adams Defeat a Pronounced Upset Nicol Is Fined for Striking Tillman. New Orleans, La., February 2. George .Hum, trainer for George Ilolle, tlie Nashville turfmau, son-in-law ami partner of William Gerst, showed up uuotlicr good two-year-old at City Park this afternoon in Colloquy, the good looking bay filly by Russell I.a Tour, which won the three and a half furlongs dash. Colloquys time was :41J, which equals the track record made by Granada March 28 last year. Only three two-year-olds have won at this distance in faster time tills year Nappa, :41i; Marion Rose, :411, and Sweet Kitty, :415. ltcliiud Colloquy were some youngsters highly thought of by their owners, among them Lens, from the stalde of Iat Dunne, and Albert Simons Blue Dale. On public form Blue Dale seemed best and the bulk of the speculation was on him. Trainer Ham and his friends, however, were not frightened any by Blue Dale and they won handsomely. When the break came Lens was off ill front and sot a lerriiie pace. Colloquy, which had an outside position at the post, went right after him, however, and before they had gone a furlong they were running" on almost even terms. The first furlong was run in : 1 1 3 , they reached the quarter in :22J and then the pace began to tell on Lens and he tired. Colloquy, however, kept on and won going away by a half length. The fact that Colloquy had worked a half mile with Karama in :47i was pretty generally known, but the fillys legs looked in bad hnpiendJtIwasr thought .tlia,e.wajJuckftd, The fact that she ran in bandages kept off many wlio otherwise would have backed her to beat Blue Dale. In her previous start Colloquy was ridden by Sheehau and ran green. Todays effort was her second und on her showing it looks as if she is the best or the second best on the grounds. Colloquy is a lilly of splendid disposition. She is galloped by a light boy and is as docile as a kitten. The track was lightning fast and the attendance for a Friday was large. The backers of favorites received a drubbing that they will remember for some time to come. The seven first choices were defeated. Jockey D. Austin carried off the riding honors. He scored with Quinn Brady and Braden. The racing was spirited, five of the finishes resulting in hard drives. In two races short heads separated the lirst two as the winning mark was passed. The defeat of Minnie Adams, the 2 to u favorite in the fourth race, proved We biggest kind of an upset. In her previous race she showed great speed, led all the way and won In a romp, running the seven furlongs in 1:2GS. Minnie Adams broke well, then dropped back and trailed along in last position until well in the homestretch, where she began to gain, made up some ground nearing the end and managed to finish third, beaten three lengths for second place by Don Fonso. Nicol, who rode Royal Legend in the first race, struck Tillman, on Immortelle, a vicious blow with his whip at the half mile ground. The judges saw the incident, and Tillman verified it. They fined Nicol 00.
