Excitement, well ridden and saving much ground all the way, came fast in the last quarter after the leaders had exhausted themselves in forciug the early pace and won well in hand. Lurutta raced Mafalda and Haughty into defeat, but tired fast near the finish. Mafalda ran a good half, but quit badly in the last furlong. , Haughty showed a fine turn of speed for a quarter, but is a non-stayer. Jack Rattlin was outclassed here. Jacomo, well ridden, was kept hard at It from the start, wore down Elksino in the last sixteenth and won going away. Elksino, away running, had the best of the start and showed line speed for the first three furlongs, but tired thereafter. Miss Martha ran in game pursuit all the way and put up a good performance. Belle Scott, away badly and in a tangle, seemingly disliked the going and ran a poor race. Jack Young, favored by the going, showed the most speed and spreadeagled the others after going a half mile. Lubln was hard ridden for the entire trip, moved up gradually and wore down Barbaros in the last quarter and was an easy second, but was not good enough at the weights to beat the winner. Frank closely under restraint, wore him down In the final furlong when called on strongly and won eased up. II. L. Frank had the best of the start, showed much speed and only tired in the final furlong. Lucullus had no mishaps and fully ran his race. Mechant broke fully In motion and interfered slightly with the others at the start, flashed Into a long lead, saved ground on the stretch turn and won well in hand. .Mike Sutton, well meant, suffered from interference and was carried wide into the stretch, hut ran like a good colt and, with better luck, would have won. Maxim Gorky ran In improved form and was responsible for the Interference with the others on the turn. High Tide ran a fairly good race. Idalia was nearly thrown soon after the start and was not pressed thereafter. Lamertlne, away poorly, was pulled up when beaten. Overweights Maxim Gorky, 41 pounds. "Q HT T SIXTH RACE 1 1-16 Miles.
