Broadcloth forged to the front at the start and made the riintilng, but succumbed to the winner in the closing drive as if short and lils race should be thrown out. Phalanx held ati unexpectedly "forward" position throughout and Is an improved horse. Azeliua rim moderately well. Jus Heidorn improved his position. Silver Wedding was never dangerous aiid dropped back in the last half. Woodsaw ran a bad race In going supposed to be made to order for him. Bryan is in bad form. Waterfotd made the running very easily for a mile and a quarter and, after :i sharp brush with the favorite, "tired badly. Python showed plenty of speed aiid fenced wolrfor over n mile, but retired when the real racing began. Maximilian was in close pursuit of the pacemaker for a mile and then fell. Core, from a flying start, relinquished the lead to Theyre Off and was held in reserve to the "etrelcb, where he"passed the latter as if he was anchored and won pulling up." Theyre Off, in a superior display of speed, raced into the lead and readily succumbed to the winner In the stretch, but held the others safe. Lally began !cwly, but closed up rapidly in the last half into a fast going third. Umbrella finished like a shot. Veronique, nearly left, made up considerable ground at the end. Glenliam failed to sthy after showing superior speed for three furlongs, and will improve. Sir William Johnson, evidently handicapped by the soing, retired after a moderate display of early speed. Right Royal, In great form and particularly served by the going, ran in dose pursuit of Grapple to the stretch, where he wore him down and drew out fast at the end. Grapple,- palpably short, made the running, vory easily for six furlongs, when he commenced to tire and succumbed after a hard closing strusgle. Red-Leaf ran close up for six furlongs and then gave way, running a bad race. Cary was beaten off throughout. Animus maintained a position within striking distance of the pacemakers to the stretch, where he came through on the Inside and were them down, getting up in the last two strides. Russell T. suddenly recovered his speed and was a prominent contender throughout, but tired right at the end. Plausible was reserved In a forward position, but went wide on the last turn and finished unexpectedly well. Mitre showed the most speed for live furlongs and tired right at the end of a good race.. Jobstown made up ground steadily. .Mariposa closed a big gnp from a bad start. Colonel Jack loomed up well in the stretch, then tired. Fish Hawk, from a flying start, was a prominent contender ihroughout, but went wide on the last turn and was generally messed about. Vaquero ran forwardly from the start and finished gamely. Airs ran in clo pursuit of the pacemaker to the stretch, then tired and dropped back. Work and llay made the running by a wide gap for five furlongs and quit suddenly when challenged in the final sixteenth. Pepper and Salt finished well.
