FEELS SURE OF RACING IN CUBA. New York, September 5. While he Is a bit alarmed for the safety of personal friends on botli sides of the conflict in Cuba, Secretary Hernandez Mejla of the Cuba Jockey Club has no fears that the rebellion will interfere with plans for racing at Havana next winter. Vp to date it has not retarded the building of the race course. "I cabled to Havana for reliable news yesterday, and the answer cfl hie that there seemed to le no cause for alarm, as the force of eighty-seven men is still working on the plant," said the Secretary. "Of course, if tilings get too squally around Havana there will be a setback, but in case the present government is successful in putting down the rebellion or in case of Amerlcau intervention before the insurgents reach the capital, which I think rather likely, there will be no delay. In any event I do not expect a serious effect on the situation as regards racing. No. matter which side triumphs we shall have racing, for the people are enthused over the sport."
