ALDERMAN BATT NOT DEAD, AS REPORTED. Detroit, Mich., September 5. Alderman Batt, the four-year-old chestnut gelding, by Mont dOr Pret-tiwit, is not dead as reported by Goodwins Turf Guide. C. C. McCafferty, who bought the gelding from C. E. Durnell at Ascot. Park last winter and raced him once afterward at Oakland, said today: "Alderman Batt is alive and well in my stable at Oakland. I intend to start him in the next Burns Handicap and for that reason did not bring him east after the earthquake brought the San Francisco racing season to an abrupt closing in April. He has been running out this summer and I have had good reports from him all along."
