HULFORD BREAKS DOWN AT OAKLAND Albia Makes Her Supporters Happy — Bad Weather and Unsatisfactory Racing. Oakland. CaL, February 4. — Deplorable weather and track conditions prevailed today. The card was one of the cheapest of the present meeting. Upsets were frequent and the racing ■■satisfactory, yet there were fully 6,000 race-goers present and the betting was brisk an* kept the thirty-four books busy handling the money. A big killing was made over the victory of Aihi.i in flic opening race. A. Drown was substituted tor Horner and he rode an impressive race on the Griffin filly. Ilullonl. the rid hot favorite in the iillh. Min.iugly bad his race won when he suddenly broke il. wn a furlong out. The owner sold the aged geld-iag on the spot 1o Paddy Lynch for . X . Mitre was claimed out of the third race by H. Mack for ,125. The hitters filly Blanche .. winner, was bid up from s70O to 1907.sh00 and bought by S. Polk. C. C. McCafferty. who has been ill, was at the track today. He signalized his return by trading Mill Song for a three-year contract on the apprentice lightweight rider Lyeurgtis. Harry Mason sold his good filly Dollie Dollars to A. Buchanan today for ,500. J. O. Keene was taken suddenly ill at the track this afternoon. Walter Miller did not ride today. James Fitzsini-mons. his manager, did and like the mounts that 1 ad beea made for him and cancelled all engagen., Bto.
