W. H. CAREY WINS ASCOT HANDICAP. Hardly an Effort for the Carman Horse Which Now Goes to Oakland. Los Angeles. Cal.. February 9. — Probably the largest crowd that ever visited AaCOt Park was present today and they had splendid sport. The infield was thrown open to the public, many viewing the raeea from carriages and automobiles. The feature was the Ascot Handicap at one and one-quarter miles. W. H. Carey dearly showed his superiority. Trailing for the first six furlongs he moved up like a shot and won in a canter amid di a fening applause. Colonel Jack ran a sensational race. He won easily in fast time and is BOW the choice of horsemen hBN for the Derby. John Powers today bought Judge Nelson from the KlrkfieM Stable. Terms private. P. F. Carman leaves tomorrow night for Oakland with six horses and will race there for one week. He goes especially to start W. H. Carey in the Family Club Handicap, to he run next Saturday. T. II. Steve an ran down from Oakland to see his horse Banana run in the Ascot Handicap.
