■ NOTES OF THE TURF. Chat lis McCr.Hken has been engaged as mauager of the htlUstream Stud in Kentucky. There is talk of building a racetrack iu Mississippi, not a great ways from Memphis. Joe Chenault, of Richmond. Ky., is the latest recruit to the ranks of the breeders of thoroughbred baraas. Representatives Thompson, a preacher, and Powell. a lawyer, of the Arkansas legislature, came to blows I ridav over the Amis bill. The bill introduced by Senator Gardner in the Missouri Legislature prohibiting the publication in newspapers or in any other form of race entries has been ordered engrossed. It was amended so as to apply- only to races outside Uiu state. The ex- planalion of the amendment was that there are no races iu Missouri. The penalty for a violation of the act is fixed a a tine of not less thaa 00 nor more lLau .tWM .
