SPORT FOR THE "PINK COAT" RIDERS Four Races for Hunters at Benninn — Three with the Liverpool Jump Barred. The Trial Steeplechase, which is lo be decided today, is the first of lour cross-country events for gentlemen riders and hunters al the Helming meet ing. The other three are the Chevy Chase Hunters Steeplechase. April : the Southern Steeplechase. April 11. and the Eighth spring Hunters Steeple chase. April 13, the last day of the ineeiing. In the race today and the next aimed two the Liver pool jump is barred. This is a new departure .it Bennlng and was suggested at the meeting of the United Hunts Baring Asoriation last October. The race of today is for hunters, live year-olds and upward, qualified under the rules of the Na tional steeple. suae and Hunt Association or the Canadian Hunt Association, that have been hunted during the seasons of 1903, 1998 or l.Mi?. The chew Phase Steeplechase is for hunters five years old and upward, that have been bunted during the sea on 61 1905, 1908, or l.ftT. owned by member a si the Chevy chase Hunt or by members of the recognised hunt dubs in the slate of Virginia The horses are to be ridden by members of hunt dubs in hunting costume. The entries to this mee will lose next Saturday at :; p. in. If there are not eight entries and tve starters the race may be declared off at the option of the stewards. The conditions of the Southern Steeplechase as to the number of entries and starters are the sane i- in the bevy I has,., bht it Is ■ handicap and the horses must be the property of members of the hunt lubs in the states of Virginia. Like Ihe Chew Chase the disiaiiie is the full course, about two miles -and a half. The Eighth Spring Hunters Steeplechase, like the ran- or today. is open to horses that have been regularly hunted during the seasons of 1991 or tOJH and properly qualified under the titles of the National Steeplechase and Hunt Assoeiatii r anadian Hunt Association. The distance is about two miles and a half. Entries lose Saturday. April ti. There are penalities and allowances, but no horse can carry more than ls » pounds or less than 199 pounds.
