Trainer Whalcn says Don DiegO lias not recovered from the rough itvatuient he received in the Exeetetor Handicap and Ihat. while he was not severely injured, he will hardly be in sha|ie to race again before the end of the meeting at Belmont Iark. Cloritier is doubtful for the Metropolitan as the result of the jamming in the Kxcelsior. He came out of the feature of the opening day at Jamaica with an injured forefoot. James Carruthers. the Canadian turfman, former partner of Alex Shields and now inlerested with Thomas llielan in several horses, is at Atlantic City recovering t nun a serious o|ieration on the kidneys. The operation was performed at Montreal about ten days ago. Mr. Carruthers rallied from it. splendidly and is daily regaining strength. His physicians assure him that he will be well enough to get back to Montreal for the opening on June 4 of the racetrack he had so much to do with building. Mr. Carruthers may atop over and see some New York racing on his journey north. Jockey Builinan. who was set down for the Jamaica meeting by starter Cassidy in the Kxcelsior Handicap, lias kept himself in good shape for a return to the saddle at Belmont Hark Thursday.
