CHANCE FOR RACING AT HOT SPRINGS. Milan Bill Sanctioninq Bettinq at the Tracks Passes the Arkansas Senate. Hot Springs. Ark.. May 7.— There is a chance that the legislature will sanction betting on horse races at the local tracks and that future meetings at Oaklawn and Kssex Park will be free from the harrassing of designing politicians aud interference on the part of each reform organizations as the Citizens Improvement Inion. The last meeting at Oaklawn was opened February 4 with the announcement Unit it would continue sixty days. Strong in-Oaeaeea against the owners of the track were at work even before the meeting opened and resulted in the intriMluct ion and passage of the Amis bill prohibiting and penalizing betting. The measure was signed by the governor February 28 and froai that day until March 00, when the track was com-pelted to dose, there was constant turmoil. Some of the things that were done in the name of the law had the effect of changing the views of certain progressive and liberal -minded people and for the past six weeks they have been at work to undo what was done by the Amis bill. Senator Milan introduced a bill exempting this Garland county aud other counties holding agricultural fairs from the provisions of the Amis law for forty days in each year. This bill passed the Senate yesterday by a vote of 17 to 14 and it is belived that it will have the endorsement of the house and receive the signature of the governor.
