Chantilly began slowly and moved up gradually in the early running, was carried very wide on the first turn, then came on and made good decisively and was much the best. La Lonile, well up throughout, caught the leaders tiring and also drew out in the Inst furlong with a rush. Ben Ban was always in close pursuit of the pacemakers and drew clear in the stretch, but succumbed finally after a game effort. Zal ran lapped on the pacemaker to the turn, where he began to bear out, and was eliminated as a contender that might have won. Crackenthorpe was outpaced to the stretch, where he finished well True Boy fell hopelessly back at the start, but closed a big gap and will do to watch. Agent practically held his opponents safe from the start, went after the pacemaker in the second mile and drew out into a commanding lead after the latter blundered at the Liverpool. Hot Shot ran sluggishly, hut Ray was at work on him all the way and finally got him into a lucky second when Gramlp-i nearly went down when beginning the third circuit after having made the running for nearly two milej. rose short at the Liverpool and narrowly escaped falling and ran a wonderful race under the circumstances Kernel finished well and ran a good race. Raymond was going well at the end. C. W. Burt was easing up in the last furlong and can probably do better. Peter Pan ran into the lead at the start and won all the way never fully extended. Salvidere held a forward position from the start, moved up after Peter Pan in earnest on the backstretch. was never able, however, to seriously menace him, but earned a wonderfully game second after a terrific stretch drive. Flip Flap, always within striking distance loomed up menacingly on the last turn and showed briefly in second place, but succumbed finally for that position after a long and heartbreaking drive. Montgomery trailed to the last quarter, where he began to close up fast and finally finished an eased up fourth. Running Water began to close up ground after going the first half and held on gamely in the "closing drive of a verv good effort. Tokalon dropepd hack when the real racing began, but showed grand speed for a mile. Buttling was virtually left. M. was shuflled back at the half, but came again with a game streteli challenge and got up in the last stride for second place. Ostrich was a prominent and game contender throughout. Gutebcll. away poorly, closed up rapidly in the middle running, got into the lead after going a half and momentarily appeared the winner, but gave way finally under a weak finish. .Tacquin set the pace for a mile and then slowly gave way after tiring from injudicious paccmaking. Ed Ball, away slowly, closed up steadily on the outside and finished with his usual belated stretch sprint. Workman, shutlied to the rear in the first half, closed a big gap in the last half and was going like u Eliot at tiie end. John Smulskl began so slowly as to be virtually left and made up much ground. Red Leaf also suffered at the start, closed an Immense gap and Is becoming good. Lord Badge worked up to prominence quickly, then tired. Orphan Lad, after prominent pursuit of the winner for six furlongs, failed nnexiectedly in the stretch. Golden Shore showed superior early speed. Crafty was riddett hard to maintain close attendance on the winner and failed to stay.
