WHITNEY BUYS METCALF FARM. Lexington, Ky., August J. George II. Whitney, owner of Melrose Stud, has purchased from IT. T. Itarnett, of Fairbanks, Alaska, the fatuous Metcalf Stock Farm, two miles and a half from this city on the Harrodsburg pike. Whitney will move Farandole, the sire of Rauastar and other good ones, to the Metcalf Farm, which will be known in the future as Melrose Stud. The tract contains 300 acres, and is one of the choicest stock farms in Fayette county. Barnett purchased the farm from the Metcalf heirs several years ago and proposed to establish a large stock farm to breed trotting horses. His wife, however, did not have good health here, and they decided to sell the farm. Darnett left Akron, Ohio, several years ago and amassed a fortune by discovering gold mines In Alaska.
