CONDENSED HISTORY OF THE KENTUCKY STAKES. When lirst established in 1S70 the Kentucky Stakes was a mile dash for two-year-olds and. as racing was then conducted, was deemed a highly important event. In 1S77 the scale of weights was raised and the distance of the Kentucky was cut down to three-jpiarters of a mile and in 1S!K! it was further reduced to live and a half furlongs. The race was discontinued in 1815 and was revived in 1901 by the Whitney regime as a selling event for two-year-old lillies, its present form. Its record is as follows: Year. Iirst. Jockeys. Wt.
