The stakes vary but little from those of last . season beyond the fact that some of the stakes WINTER DATES AND STAKES. Continued from first page. which last season were run at the Pair Grounds will be decided the coining winter over the City Park track. This condition is ncecssltalrd by the agreement as to dales entered into when the treaty of peace between the two tracks was signed in 100C and by the further fact that the events referred to are run on holidays and take their names from the days on which they are run, such as the Christmas Handicap, New Years Handicap, the Thanksgiving Day Handicap, and so on. Iiast year all the big holidays fell to the Fair Grounds. This coining winter the new track will have them. The values of the events have been slightly increased, the increases amounting to nbout ,500 on a season .at each track. The City Park Derby, which last year was run as a straight added money event with a premium of $.,0011, will this winter lie a guaranteed race with a value of .flO.OOO, just as the last Crescent City Derby was and will.be again. The City Park Derby lias also been changed in its conditions by the addition of a live-pound IM-nalty for the "winner of ,.$..,000 in 19oS." As it will be run on .March 21. this penalty will hardly apply to any other than the winner of the Crescent City Derby, which will lie run a week earlier, unless perchance the winners of the Ascot Derby and the California Derby should be sent to New Orleans for the race. Tin; switch in the stakes gave to City Park three events exclusively for three-year-olds, leaving to tlie Fair Grounds only its Derby for horses of that age. This would make the Fair Grounds list look rather sparse, so a new stake for the youngsters, to be called the "Mississippi Selling Stakes," with ,000 added money, has been added to the Fair Grounds list.
