EASY FOR. PETER STERLING. WINS CANADIAN SPORTSMANS HANDICAP AND EQUALS TRACK RECORD. Dele Strome Is "Boosted" by N. K. Beal After Last Race Bennett Releases Farrow Civill Buys Lamptrimmer. J Buffalo, N. Y., August 24. At Fort Erie this afternoon Peter Sterling, carrying top weight and ridden by V. Powers, equalled the track record of 1:45 for a mile and one-sixteenth when he won the Canadian Sportsmans Handicap, the feature race of the program. Peter Sterling ran coupled with Bathmarla and was heavily backed at a short price. Powers had him under restraint the first half mile of the trip, went to the front without effort rounding the far turn, and cantered home a winner by eight lengths. Dele Strome was entered to be sold at 00, ,she was bid up to 00 and bought by N. K. Beal. P. M. Civill purchased of G. C. Bennett at private sale this morning, the three-year-old Lamp-trimmer. The price paid was 00. A carload of horses left .for Montreal tonight. In the lot were the stables of Libby and Noble, E. W. Moore, W. H. Mosby and E. L. Talley. Jockey Farrow has been released by the Bennett stable.
