Cannot inform you as to what time returns were received locally. Have nothing to do with such matters and have no means of knowing. But .having accepted the wager, the bookmaker should pay it. C. AA B., Chicago. It is difficult to decide .what should lie done in such a case and it is really one which the parties concerned should settle by friendly compromise. The statement that the horse that won had been scratched was no doubt made in good faith on what was deemed reliable information, but It could not alter the facts of the race.
