MONTGOMERY TO BE SOLD BY HERZ. New York, September IS. --Bmil Ilerz has tired of racing and has planned to sell all the horses in training he now has. Including the good three-year-old. Montgomery. The sale is likely to be held within a few days. It will include some eight or ten head which have been acquired in the last six months, with Montgomery the only distinguished member of the lot. During the Belmont Park meeting Ilerz paid F. A. Forsythe 5,000 for Montgomery, and the horse, while lie has been a bit unfortunate this Reason, lias more than won himself out in .stakes and purses, to say nothing of several good wagers placed at opiKirtuno times. .Montgomery won the Jockey Club Stakes, the Broadway Stakes, and the -Commonwealth Handi-eapj and the value of these events, together witli second and third money earned, brings his total winnings for Mr. Ilerz up to 9,000. After his good showing in the Brighton Handicap, when lie finished third to Peter Pan and McCarter, Montgomery had some foot trouble that kept him out of the running until the Sheepshead Bay fall meeting. But for this lie would undoubtedly have; been a bigger winner for Mr. Ilerz, as there seemed to be one or two slakes which he had at his mercy. Then came his defeat by Salvidere in the Annual Champion Stakes, in which Montgomery ran a grand race. Montgomery lias a number of first class engagements yet and will probably bring a good price when offered to the public. TJie other horses in the stable to be sold are mostly selling platers, but there is some very useful material, especially for the man who has planned a winter, campaign.
