OAKLAND RACING CONTINUES FAST. Roalta Runs a Rapid Six Furlongs Old Gor-galete Scores in a Drive. Oakland, Cal., December 2. Presiding steward K. C. Hopper announced today that iu the interest of clean racing at Oakland, Fireball, the beaten 1 to 3 favorite in the closing race on Saturday, will not be allowed to start in future races on the local track unless he is backed by the approval of the otlicial veterinary surgeon, who was instructed to examine him carefully beforehand. Dr. Saylor was brought out here from New York and is being paid a big salary to detect evidences of "doping" and other signs of unfitness on the part of the horses engaged iu the different races, but tip to date he has done nothing to indicate discoveries. The Lone Wolf so-called reversal of form was dismissed without action. The owner, who has been known to risk as much as 0 of real money on his horses, was able to produce convincing proof that on this particular occasion that he had backed Lone Wolf to the limit and was accordingly exonerated. Approximately S,000 race-goers saw Koenigiu Luise ini I led up in the last hundred yards by jockey Moreland iu the second race and nipped out for second place by K. M. Brattain. This trilling offense cost Moreland u weeks suspension, always excepting to his employer, 12. Trotter, who will be allowed to ride him on his own horses. The sensational feature of i-.u otherwise uneventful and moderately attractive card, was the victory of Walter Miller on Bed Ball, at one time a 25 to 1 chance. Only the dled-in-the-wool pikers and loyal followers of the champion jockey profited by this astonishing upset. Good horses were engaged in the closing race. Thomas II. Williams colt, ltoalta, with Miller up, and materially aided by the starter, scored a brilliant victory. Two favorites, .Lackfoot at 4 to 5 and Gorgalete, at 11 to ltoalta, a second choice and three outsiders accounted for the card. The one-best-bot just now is the weather, which is ideal for racing. Denny Bros, shipped their horses to Arcadia yesterday. G. II. Keene shipped on the same train. W. B. Jennings sent Confederate along in the Keene car.
