Through acquiring two cracks in Nealon and Charles Edward, the Patchogue Stable arose to prominence this year and is well up in the winning list. But for being unsound, Charles Edward might have proved the best three-year-old of the year. When right his speed was something extraordinary and speed is what wins races. The one period when he was at his best was while the Brighton Beach summer meeting was in progress. It was here that he simply ran away from Ballot, Dr. Gardner, Electioneer and Nealon in the Brighton Mile in 1:37? and could have wiped out the mile record of 1:37s had he been urged out: totik the , Seagate Stakes from Dinna Ken at a mile and an eighth, in 1:502,- a now record, and, with 120 pounds up, defeated Frank Gill for the Brighton Derby, running the mile and a half in 2:302, being three consecutive performances of unequalled, merit. So far as money won is concerned, Nealon did better than Charles Edward and was a profitable investment at the 4,000 paid for him. The Belmont cast-off, Don Enrique, and the fleet two-year-old. Running Account, also did well for the stable. Its account of races and money won Is as follows: Horse. Sts. 1st. 2d. 3d. Unp. Won. Belle of Iroquois 22 .1 3 0 18 $ 1,010 Charles Edward 5 3 0 2 0 19,485 Don Enrique ! 5 1 2 1 5,195 Lotus 5 0 1 1 3 200 Moyea C 1 0 1 4 970 Nealon 8 3 2 1 2 22,840 Running Account .. 4 3 1 0 0 3,775 Smiling Tom 14 2 3 3 0 2.SG5 Viuo ... 9 3 1 1 4 2,020 Totals .82 21 12 11 3S S,990 . With the good tworyear-oldJlni Gaff ney, -and -the useful older campaigner, Grapple, as his mainstays, Frank J. Farrells stable earnings of 1907 took a big upward advancement from his total of 9,935 in 190C, Jim Gaffney alone winning more than that sum. James B. Brady was also a useful contributor, the Farrell Stable winnings for the year being as follows: v Horse. Sts. 1st. 2d. 3d. Unp. Won. Aimee C 15 3 3 3 C $ 2,930 Blandy 5 0 1 1 3 200 Georire Considine. . 11 1 0 1 9 1,170 Grapple 17 10 3 0 4 15,910 Jim Gaffney 14 3 G 1 4 25,445 James B. His total that year was 9,390, while this year it Is S,1C0. His really good two-year-old, Fair Play, was his main money winner and, if he goes on in the right way, should play an important part in the three-year-old racing of 1908. Next to him came the two-year-old filly. Half Sovereign, which was decidedly unlucky in several races and but for this would have returned much more than the ,050 she won In the course of the years racing. Mr. Belmonts older horses ran disappointingly, Okenite doing best, while Blandy and Don Enrique fell far below expectations. Probably when the young Rock Sands make, their appearance the chairman of the Jockey Club will do materially better, nere is the record of his stable for 1907: Horse. Sts. 1st. 2d. 3d. Unp. Won. W. Colts big band of jumpers did well for him this year and he probably never enjoyed a more prosperous season on the turf. Commodore Fontaine gathered the most money for him, but Kernel, Thistledale, Paprika, Blue Pigeon, Gus Straus, Kara and Dulcian were all efficient servants and winners of note. His one flat racer of -good class, Iron-; sides, was not in good form after he acquired him, or else the Colt winnings would have been considerably greater. But they were good enough and In detail here is what his horses did in 1907 in comparison with 1900, when he won but 3,290: Horse. Sts. 1st. 2d. 3d. Unp. Won.
