February IB. — The miming of Hm Bush Cup Handicap at two and one-quarter milis was the chief feature of lixlays racing. Yankee Girl, i-oliplod with Temaceo. constituted the Ellison entry. and were most favored in the hettiac. Xotter al onee sent Yankee Old into an early lead, while Powers on Teinaeeo had waiting orders and trailed distantly. Notter. during the lirst mil- and a hall", repeatedly fouled Alma Pu-fonr. Kcdgauntlct and Donna. Redgannilet rcieiving the hulk of this on aeeonnt of his close proximity to Yankee ;irl throughout. Ott. who rode Red gauntlet, was linally forced lo take him hack and try lo go around Yankee Girl on the stretch turn, hut Hotter, noting the .move, and also observing that the Hayes horse was not tiring. liegan carrying the latter out with the view of letting Temaceo. which was gaining, come up near the inner rail and win. Redganntlet. however, was ftest today, and easily drew away in the stretch run, to win hy over a length. Yankee Girl retaining second place from Temaceo. with Alma Dufour and Donna beaten off. After the finish it was expected that hoth of the I.llison horses would he disqualified, hut for some reason the judges allowed the race to stand as they finished, although admitting that Notter had fouled Redganntlet hy suspending him for ten days. The latter would have keel closer up hut for being taken wide on the turn. P. Dunnes Warner Griswell, under a good ride from Notter. proved easilv best of those in the fifth race. In the third Dunne lost a hard race with his Ketchemike through Notters bad judgment, in allowing him to drop too far hack in the first quarter and go wide into the stretch. F.. T. Shipp. which wou. had to be ridden Mil to the last inch lo get in flout of Ketch -mike. After many attempts Katie Rowers found conditions to her liking and. aided by a good ride from Notter. managed to win from Donigre. The defeat of Dr. McCluer in the dosing race was ■ stunner. Sir Toddington winning as his rider pleased. After the finish a deputy sheriff took charge of Dr. McCluer. having previously served an attachment in favor of the American Priming Company if I— I Victor F. Brifton. for a debt of B31and. .lockey V. Powers was suspended hy the starter for live days for disobedience at the post. T..I. Hayes had engaged .1. Lee to ride Redganntlet in the handicap, but his thro. -days suspension lor rough riding prevented him tilling the engagement. Hayes tried to persuade the officials to allow 1 to ride, but this they refused. Hayes intended to bet on Redganntlet. but his failure to pel l«* e dissuaded him from belting. Rumors which began at City Park that some of I he riders here are using electric batteries, caused tl* ollicials to begin an investigation.
