TRIBUTE TO DEAD AMERICAN JOCKEY Ample tribute hasl ecn paid to the memory of the jockey Van Dusen whose name is inseparable1 from the success which attended Dyers stable in Austria and Hungary and that of Walker whose ability when he was first engaged as trainer to the Waldfreid stall in Germany was mainly affirmed by the rilling of Van Dusen writes the Continental editor of the London Sportsman In 1904 he was engaged by Baron Oppcnheim and Mr R Haniel to ride for the stable of Harry Brown and he rather surprised his colleagues at Iloppegarteu when on the opening day he rode in three races and each time managed to catch the eye of the judge as a winner As soon as he was free he was tempted by a heavy fee to transfer his services to the Weinbcrg stable and perhaps no man who has crossed the saddle in Germany ever established a better record than Van Dusen was able to claim Of late years his health considerably impaired by northern cli ¬ mates be has taken a long rest in Texas his home lie had won every classic event in Austria Hun ¬ gary and Germany and I can remember seeing him ride as winners at the September Meeting at Cologne in 1905 the two leading events of the day on Baron KikI and Fcstino on the eve of his de ¬ parture for Texas where he now lies under the green turf on which he distinguished himself
