CRACK HORSES IN THE BROOKLYN HANDICAP The Brooklyn Handicap will be run next Monday afternoon In each of the past four years it has been a race of the guaranteed value of 20000 This year the value has ben raised to 25000 Sim ¬ ilar action was taken by the Coney Island Jockey Club In the case of the Suburban so the big three among our handicaps the Prooklyn Suburban and Prightou are now on a level in respect to value The Brooklyn differs from the other two in that it lias no penalties The horses that start will carry the weights assigned them last February by Mr Vosburgh Quite a number of the great threeyearolds of last year have not started as yet Such a valuable race as the Brooklyn cannot well fail to entice some of them into action Ballot has been doing good work and should be a starter He is thq top weight at 120 pounds and is well able to carry it Of the Patchogue Stables splendid pair Nealon 125 and Charles Edward 122 at least one should mikc his 1OJ debut here Colin Is In at Jllponnds but being almost sure to run in the Beluumf next Sat unlay is not likely to be a starter Ills stable mate Celt has but 100 pounds to carrv Mr Keenos other representatives are Superman 117 and Ucstlgouchc Salvidere has been showing improvement In racing but in the light of what he has done so far seems heavily weighted at 121 S C Hildreth has a formidable reprcscntatlve in Montgomery 120 Uncle 105 and Tony Faust 10S Montgomery postFrom being likely to go to the post From Montgomery down to McCarter the inter ¬ mediates are Dr Gardner US Superman IIS Dandelion 117 W II Carey 115 Uumiing Water 115 CVttontown 115 and Sir Iliion 115 None of these is to lie considered for various reasons But McCarter with but 114 pounds to carry is to be voted Dangerous At six pounds in his favor he defeated lack Atkin fairly in the Kxcelslor Handi ¬ cap find was an exceedingly abused and unlucky horse In the Metropolitan MetropolitanFormerly Formerly it was held that threeyearolds had but a remote chance of winning Such a notion has been relegated to the domain of Illusions last years monopoly of the big handicaps by threeyearolds helping This years Prooklyn has a great many eligildes of that age that were cracking good twoyearolds and it will not In at all surprising it a horse of that age repeats Supermans feat of last year Besides Colin Celt IJestigonche and Inele there are such lightly weighted ones as Jim Gafiney 101 Fair Play and Koyal Tourist King James and Firestone S Notasulga 7 Fal rada Master Uohcrt and Running Account all with excellent racing credentials and as far as known in good training conditions This is quite a formidable band The stumbling block in their way is that the older hores are of much higher class than were the older horses of 1007 1007In In the lightweight division older than three years Lad of Langden and Minnie Adams 102 Old Honesty 100 Faust flS Don Creole and Ber ¬ keley have run good races and are given a chance chanceAltogether Altogether if weather and track conditions favor it will not be at all surprising if as niany as twenty 1orses go to the post for this years Brooklyn anil nt least fifteen seems a certaintv
