CANADIAN TURF IS IN GOOD ORDER Buffalo June 25 Francis Nelson of Toronto one of the foremost sportsmen of the Dominion carat over from Canada yesterday to look over the im ¬ provements at the Fort Erie plant with President John Madigan of the Niagara Racing Association today At the Iroquois last evening Mr Nelson de clarcd his regret that laws affecting racing had been passed in New York state stateWhat What is the situation in Canada he was asked askedOf Of course said he we can always find those who are opposed to the other fellow enjoying himself as he likes and there may be some sentiment of that sort opposed to racing but we believe that those who rule Canada arc not likely to be found hysterical or Pharisaical enough to pay attention to it Racing has too long been a well established institution in the British Empire to be disturbed Movements which arise to disturb racing we are convinced have politics of some sort at their back just what sort we dont care enough to examine In Canada at the present time the turf is on a splendid footing and there is no prospect that ac ¬ tion which may be taken in the States will preju ¬ dice our legislators The greatest criticism which is aimed at racing in ihc Dominion at present is that it is patronized by too many of the best peo ¬ ple We can stand that sort of criticism
