HORSEMEN AT LATONIA IN A QUANDARY Windsor and Fort Erie the Only Havens of Refuge in Sight and Both Crowded Cincinnati O July S The Latonia track pre ¬ sented a deserted appearance today dcspito being the quarters of numerous horsemen and their charges Talk of attempting to lease the track for racing purposes was again revived but as no indi ¬ vidual cared to assume responsibility for the move ¬ ment the scheme fell flat It Is now patent that the gates will stay closed until some time in Oct her The feeling is still high agaittst the manage ¬ ment lor its action in not continuing the meeting until July IS the term allotted by the Racing Com ¬ mission It is generally supposed that the Lalouia Jockey Club will again make application to the Kentucky Racing Commission for dates this fall and will insist on carrying on its race meeting with bookmakers The failure of the Racing Com ¬ mission1 to sanction bookmaking may then precipi ¬ tate antagonism and the whole affair may eventu ¬ ally be thrashed out in the courts courtsMany Many of the horsemen are In a quandary where to ship as stable room at the tracks now in opera ¬ tion is at a premium Telegrams from Windsor to several horsemen are to the effect that all avail ¬ able space within a radius of five miles is taken The improvements now going on at Fort Erie are acting as a check to shipping there as the track proper for the present is unfit to prepare horses on John Kcegan who was track superintendent at Latonia left tonight for Buffalo to assume active charge of putting the Fort Erie tracklnto condi ¬ tion Several work teams and harrows were also shipped tonight to be used at the track Billy Myer who had charge of the Fort Erie track is reported broken in health healthL L A Cellas horses were shipped to Buffalo Rome Respess and T C McDowells strings will follow as soon as available cars can be secured for their transportation transportationJockey Jockey Minder left tonight for Windsor where he will ride until the opening of Fort Erie Jockey Powers leaves tomorrow for the same track trackNugent Nugent Bros of St Louis are here in an effort to purchase cheap horses They secured a half dozen during the day including Charlatan CharlatanJames James Arthur and Louis Tanbcr sent their horses to Windsor today George Holle C S Wilson and H R Baker contemplate shipping to Butte Mont N D Davis will campaign Water Lake and others at county fairs for the next two months monthsHughes Hughes Bros will send Barnsdale Beth Goodwin and others in their string to Lexington where they will be rested Miller Henderson is negotiating for the purchase of their Skyo SkyoJudge Judge Charles Price left tonight for Detroit where he will rest l for some time timeNot Not knowing that the meeting here had been abandoned J P Mayberry shipped his horses from New York and they arrived this afternoon afternoonJockey Jockey James Hogg will go to Butte Mont C McDowells EllenaDale Is rounding into condition and was given a fast trial today
