PATCHOGUE STABLES CHARLES EDWARD CH C 4 BY GOLDEN GARTER FLORA MAC ONE OF THE FASTEST HORSES SHOWN IN MODERN RACING Charles Edward may or may not start In the course of tlic meeting now In progress ut Brighton Beach but at any rate lie is reported to be thriving at present and certain to lie raced at Saratoga if all continues to go well with him in the interim He is truly a remarkable race horse When at his bestr a horse of superb speed i stayer and able withal to carry high weights with ease Nothing approaching the speed of his three successive great races at Brighton Beach last year when he ran a mile in 1372 a mile and an eighth in 1502 and a mile and a half in 230A carrying big weight and winning In a canter in each case has ever been witnessed in this country Unfortunately he is an unsound horse and requires delicate and careful training If entirely sound there is no telling what this exceedingly tleet horse would have ac ¬ complished by this time in the way of breaking records recordsAs As a twoyearold Charles Edward started in live races and won but once In his iirst two races he ran second to Tersey Lady and Botanist respectively for purses then with Walter Miller at 122 pounds in his back won the National Stallion llncc at Beluiont Park defeating Superman De Mund Philander Oktiiitc and Mitre At Sheepshead Bay he ran unplaced to Oran Water Pearl and Ballot in the Great Trial Stakes finishing fourth His last race was in the Saratoga Special for which he was unplaced to Salvidere McCarter and Peter Pan PanLast Last year he was not campaigned extensively but won two purses and the Brighton Mile Stakes Seagate Stakes and Brighton Derby at Brighton Beach defeating in these races such cracks as Ballot Dr Gardner Electioneer Nealon Diniia Ken and Frank Gill among others othersHis His record to date is as follows Year Sts 1st 2nd 3rd Unp Won 1900 5 1 2 0 2 840S 1007 11 5 3 2 1 23010
