TOM MDOWELLS TWO CRACK RACERS RACERSIn In Kings Daughter and Berwick T C McDowell owns two of the best horses campaigned over the Canadian tracks this year Kings Daughter is a fiveyearold bay mare by Ornament Qiicenlikc II and is perhaps the best daughter of Ornament She made her debut at Lexington May 1905 and won four consecutive races there and at Louisville all purses Her only other win as a twoyearold was the Willow Handicap at Gravesend in which she defeated Toots Mook Ruth AV Tangle Whimsical and ten more lillics As a threeyearold she won the Kentucky Oaks from Lady Navarre Lady Anne and Helena C and at Sheepshead Bay with 113 pounds up won the Coney Island Handicap defeat ¬ ing Prince Hamburg 124 and Roselxn 14 with Bedouin Kiamesha Hooray Aeronaut and Halifax unplaced running the threequarters of a mile of the race in l12g Her principal success last year was in winning the Culver Handicap at Grarcsend in which carrying 110 pounds she beat Suffrage 124 Brookdale Nymph nn and Sowoll 112 Handzarri Dreamer Bat Masterson and Belle of Iroquois also starting startingHaving Having been accustomed to competing with such nighclass horses it was to be expected that she would shine when pitted against those she was called upon to meet in tho west and Canada this year and she has given some notable displays of speed and ability to carry weight At New Or ¬ leans she ran threequarters In 11 seveneighths in 12C and liveeighths in 100 At Louisville she won at seven furlongs in 12C and a mile in 138 the latter being a new track record At Fort Erie she ran a mile and a sixteenth in 145 u mile in l39i and at a mile and seventy yards with 124 pounds on her back made a now American record by running the distance in l42i She is to be raced at Oakland nest winter and if sho remains sound and in good form may bo expected to further dis tlnguish herself Her racing record is as follows Kings Daughter b m 1903 by Ornament Queenlike II Year Age Sts 1st 2d d Unp Won 1005 2 is 5 5 o 52SO 52SOloon loon 3 ii 5 o i r 1007 4 10 3 4 1 8 100S 5 22 0 4 0 9 9Totals Totals 4 02 22 13 2 25 2 2Berwick Berwick a son of the fast horses AlIanaDale and Miss Gussie did not win as a twoyearold and only twice last year as threeyearold But this year he lias developed into a highclass sprinter and a great weight carrier His only stake success and his first winning race of this year was in the Brewers Exchange Handicap at Latonia June 20 It was a dash of threequarters and lie won in 112 with 111 pounds up His stablemate Ellen aIale was second Dainty Dame third and Prince Ahmed Estradia Ilazelthorpe Honest Goldproof and Al Muller ran unplaced Since then he has won at threequarters in l13Jt with 117 up threequar ¬ ters in 113 with 122 threequarters in mud in 1145 carrying 125 five and a half furlongs in 1055 with 127 threequartors in 113 with 12S and seven furlongs in 127 carrying 120 pounds He is a good race horse and not necessarily restricted to sprinting His record to date is Berwick ch c 1804 by AllanaDalo Miss MissGussio Gussio Year Age Sts 1st 2d 3d Unp Won 1906 2 1907 3 2 1 OS 11 J7 J7Totals Totals 3 20 i 4 soicr
