MADDEN GOES EARLY TO ENGLAND To Leave With His Derby and Oaks Candidates the End of this Month MonthNew New York September 25 John E Madden hns decided to start for Europe in a week or ten days with his Epsom Derby candidates Sir Martin and Fayette and Oaks eligible Lady Bedford He did not originally intend to leave this country before the middle of Octolier but recent developments iu mindHis racing have caused him to change his mind His determination to depart this month means that he will not start Fayette in the stakes at Belmont Park for which the Ogden colt is eligible Mr Madden believes it will bo better to take Fayette and Sir Martin abroad early this fall than to wait until winter because five or six months in England will themIt give him a chance to acclimatize them It has fared badly with American horses that have gone over in winter or spring to train for th Derby Mr Madden will takw two of the smartest colts ever raised in this country abroad in Sir Martin and Fayette Thev are by an English stal ¬ lion which won the Futurity of 1S9G out of Ameri ¬ can mares maresAt At the beginning of the current season Mr Mad ¬ den could not choose between them but the vlcto rius of Sir Martin in the Great Trial second part of the Double Event Saratoga Special and Cham ¬ pagne Stakes have indicated clearly that he Is noC only the star of the Madden string but the best colt the season has developed developedSir Sir Martin is a youngster of strapping propor ¬ tions with a fine turn of speed he manages weight cleverly and he acts as though he might run anr distance Sir Martin is from a Hanover mare and accordingly a representative of the greatest Ameri can thoroughbred families familiesFayette Fayette on bis dams side comes from the stock of Salvidere Sir Dixon and Belvidere and he is a comely colt of line speed But he does not seem to be as good over a distance of ground as Sir Martin MartinMr Mr Madden had two opportunities to sell Fnyetto for 50000 before Sir Martin defeated him In the Great Trial but he declined to let one colt go without the other otherUnless Unless Mr Madden alters plans made some timo back he will send several promising yearlings abroad with Fayetto and Sir Martin and have them trained in an English stable He does not expect to do any training in England himself He will not desert the American turf The majority of his twoyearolds next season will race In this country if they race anywhere
