WOODBINE PAKES OFF MY PROGRAM DEVOTED TO HORSES OF MODER ¬ ATE SPEED WITH NO STAKE RACE Colonel Jack Wins and Passes to a New Owner OwnerAfter After Sensational Bidding Up Exciting Finish in the Steeplechase Toronto Out September 25 Today was an off day at Woodbine Park The program lacked the interest provided during the previous days of the meeting a majority of the races being framed to suit the medium grade of horses The conditions in two of them the Ringwood Steeplechase and the Norfolk purse called for Canadianbreds The Carman stable was again very much in the lime ¬ light Sir Alvescot and Colonel Jack both winning while Red Mimic finished second to Quantico in the maiden race Colonel Jacks victory led to a change of owners and incidentally it marked what was probably the greatest boost in a selling race ever known In Canada Colonel Jack was in with an ordinary band being entered at the low figure of 400 When bids were called for there was a lively tilt between Charles Bowman owner of Belmere which finished second and R F Carman Bowman carried the horse up to 2300 at which figure he secured the colt As Bowman received half the run up the horse cost him 1350 1350The The steeplechase furnished the keenest contest of the afternoon Butter Iadle and Picktime fighting it out heads anart all of the last half mile with the former first at the finish by the smallest of margins Butter Ladles victory was all the more creditable from the fact that she hurt herself in the race When Beamish pulled the mare up she was so lame he was forced to dismount and lead her back to the scales There were the usual series of accidents during the running of the race three of the six starters losing their riders at some stage of the trip tripThe The Chinn colors were seen In front for the first time during the meeting when Pretension galloped home in easy winner in the opening dash The Clyde stable furnished the winner of the maiden race in their handsome Atheling colt Quantlco which beat his opponents in a canter Mill on the Flosa carried the Seagram colors to victory in the Jsor folk Purse while Cliing Hare made the long shot players happy by beating the heavily backed Coat cutter in the closing race raceOwing Owing to his crazy antics at the post the stewada ordered that the future entry of the horse Cyclops be refused refusedA A TJ Stansbury shipped his stable to Hamilton tonight E Whyte trainer of the Kirkfield Stable which has been racing on the metropolitan circuit has wired for stalls t Hamilton Secretary HamiltonSecretary London o the Hamilton Jockey Club was a visitor at Woodbine today He reports that were the club able to provide accommodations over 1000 horses would take part in the Hamilton meet ¬ ing ingiMany iMany of the owners racing on the northern circuit have already made plans for shipping their stables to Cuba Most of them will go via New York and Baltimore F W Gerhardy one of the offlcial han dicappers of the Ontario Jockey Club and also clerk of tho scales here has been selected as secretary of the Cuba Jockey Club At the conclusion of the Hamilton meeting Mr Gerhardy jvlll go to Atlanta where lie will manage a thirteen days meeting given in connection with the Georgia State Fair Joseph McLaughlin will be assistant secretary to Mr Gerhardy at the Havana meeting
