WASHINGTON RACES WELL ATTENDED. Washington. D. C October 13. The attendance at t Benning this afternoon showed a decided improvement over that of the opening day aud indications now are that the meeting will be a successful ouo ? iiuanciallv for the club. The horse show, which was jeld previous to the races, aroused much enthusi asm. several horses of national repute being shown 3 In the different classes. Society turned out in force, manv people prominent socially in Virginia and j Maryland beiug present. The object of this meeting Is said to be for the purpose of finding some way to j continue racing at Bennlng. so it is something of an l experiment. Speculation was spirited, although bettins was s done in such a quiet manner trat the authorities did not Interfere. Only one favorite won. Lady Isabel m the opening race being the successful choice. . Hanonia. at 1 to 3. Rye Boy at even money and 1 Bobble Kean at 4 to 5 found strong support in their r races. In the absence of Frank J. Bryan, who was s ealled to Norbett. Pa., to manage a hunt club meeting William P. Riggs filled the position of presiding i iudge. Captain W. F. Presgrave and S. S. How-land were among the visitors.
