CARMANS NOMINATIONS NOT WANTED. San Francisco, Cal., November 5. It became known today that the California Jockey Club declined to accept a big batch of stake nominations made by R. F. Carman, who was one of the chief nominators last season. Several unpleasant occurrences in which Carman and his connections figured here last winter are responsible for the disfavor in which he is held. Jockeys V. Powers, A. Walsh and C. Ross are the most recent arrivals. With Powers came his father and Louis Cahn. who will make his engagements. Powers will ride here until Santa Anita opens and will then go to that track for the remainder of the winter. M. Garritys contract on jockey Archibald has been acquired by A. B. Spreckels and Archibald will come here from Santa Anita immediately. Jockey Kirschbaum today entered the service of J. D. Millin. Jockey McLaughlin, having been reinstated, has arrived from Salt Lake City and will ride for Dan Dennison. Jockey J. Lee will arrive tomorrow from New Orleans. Jockey Rettig will probably ride for C. R. Ellison. Ellison tried to buy the contract ou jockey McCarthy, but terms were considered excessive. Todays arrivals included Fred Myrtle from Sacramento with J. H. Touheys Gossiper II., Charley Paine and Heydentus. and James Coffey from British Columbia with Elmdale. Nappa, Em and Em and Red Ball. Walter Miller has been industriously engaged in galloping horses for the past few days and will be in good condition for the opening. Sam Hildreth has decided to accept the weights alloted Montgomery. Dandelion. Fitz Herbert and Angelus for the Opening Handicap and that quartette will run in the opening days feature with jockeys Koerner, Powers, Shilling and Upton as their respective pilots. Jack Nunnally, Royal Tourist. Eyelfright. W. T. Overton and Firestone are others that will accept the weights. Hildreths entry will probably be about even money favorite. Dandelion went an impressive six furlongs today in 1:14 and galloped out the mile in 1:41?. Royal Tourist worked a mile. In 1:42?: Sugar-maid and Fantastic in 1:43s. Other good moves were: Fred Bent, six furlongs in 1:14: Aftermath, five furlongs in 1:01? ; Silver Stockin". three-eighths in 35: Toll Box. five furlongs in 1 :01ft.
