NOTES OF THE TURF. Steve lHommedieu. -well known around Chicago tracks, is making book at the Houston meeting. George Withers looks with favor on the El Paso meeting. He says that there is a line track at that place and that the stables are also good. The star attraction of the Houston meeting will be the Hoo-Hoo purse of ,000 for all ages, at three-quarters of a mile, to be run next Saturday. It is said that Governor Hughes will have introduced a bill at the next session of the New York legislature that will prohibit the publication of betting quotations by newspapers in the state, also by telegraph ticker service. William Easton. the auctioneer, is said to be a very sick man at French Lick Springs. Ind. lie has been in a bad way ever since the McGrathlana Stud sale, and Ed Tipton said the other day that Mr. Easton was in quite a serious condition, although not dangerously ill. Jockey Lucien Lyne has had a fine season in Belgium. He rode this year for M. Ribaucort. and recently at Ostcnd piloted three winners out of the same number of mounts for the day. On another occasion he rode four winners out of six. Lyne will ride for the same owner next season. John Sanford has a numberof fine yearlings at his Hurricana Stud in Montgomery County. New York. The majority of these are by Isidor. Chuctanunda and Rockstone. Mohawk II.. which completely broke down in the only start he made this year, is reported to have recovered entirely and will be retired to the stud. One of the decorations tliat -will attract the attention of race-goers on the opening day at Santa Anita Park will be a fringe of geraniums just inside the infield fence for the entire circuit of the track. Over 3.000 plants. It Is said, have been set out and they will be fragrant and beautiful when racing begins. Jolly Dixon, the five-year-old brown gelding by Sir Dixon Merry Maiden, the property of Thomas Hitchcock. Jr.. was awarded first prize In the thoroughbred hunters class at the New York horse show Tuesday evening. This contest was open to qualified hunters registered in the Stud Book, conformation and quality to count fifty per cent, performances over fences fifty per cent. Six race horses belonging to M. A. Neff were attached at the Latonia race track Wednesday afternoon by constable Ben Bledenhorn, on an attachment issued in the Quarterly Court in Covington, in the suit of Ferdinand Stohlmau, filed yesterday, to recover 90 on a note. He claims Neff is about to leave the state. The suit was filed by Attorney F. J. Hanlon. Stohlmau wants the horses sold to satisfy his claim.
