Vell-Picard. who has won 00,330. As usual, George Stem, .far and away the best rider in France, easily beats all the other jockeys, and his average for the year is a Ipretty good one. 142 wins out of 550 mounts. According to Le Jockey, the following stallions have won 0,000 or more luring the year: Sire. Francs. Sire. Francs. In 1S9S 714 yearlings were sold, the highest vrice. 3.200 guineas, being given for Simonswood. Twenty-three yearlings were disposed of for a thousand guineas or more, and fifty-nine yearlings made from 500 guineas to a thousand. In 190S 050 yearlings have lieen sold, the highest price. 2.900 guineas, being realized for a colt by Persimmon, out of Simplify. Thirty-six yearlings fetched from a thousand guineas upward, and forty-three were disposed of between 500 guineas and the thousand. Valens performance in the November Nursery at Newbury in winning at seven furlongs, witli 120 pounds up. was of such a stylish character that the far-striding son of Laveno may now be regarded as a serious rival to Bayardo for next years Derby. Frank Wootton. who rode him yesterday, has been promised the mount on Lord Carnarvons colt in both his next seasons classic engagements, which include the St. Leger as well as the Epsom event. It is probable that at the winter meeting of the Jockey Club a motion will be submitted in favor of permitting nurseries to begin in Goodwood week. There is no reason whatever, says Truth, why events of this class should be prohibited after the first half of the racing season is over, and if they were allowed at Goodwood that meeting and all the An gust meetings would be greatly benefited. Seven Gorman stables have won more than 5,000 in the recent flat racing season. Messrs. von Weinberg heading the winning list witli a total of 81,250. followed by the Royal Gradltz Stud with 4S,CS0 and Freiherr E. von Oppenheim Willi 1908.sh4.-715. Fervor is a pronounced favorite for both the Austrian and the German Derby of next year. Messrs. von Weinbergs colts price for the Austrian race is 7 to 1 in Vienna, while for the Hamburg event his quotation is only 5 to 1. Eight horses, the property of Mr. J. R. Keone, have safely reached Beckhampton from America.
