FAVORITES ALL DEFEATED. OAKLANDS RACES TAKEN BY OVERLOOKED OUTSIDERS WITHOUT AN EXCEPTION. Booger Rod Takes the Chief Race of the Afternoon Jeanne DArc and Spooner Run Unplaced. San Francisco. Cal., December :0. From the class of horses todays racirnr at Oakland was of the regulation off-day description. A majority of the rfices were conditioned for selling platers and in n form way results were hopelessly chaotic. Outsiders enjoyed a clean sweep of the turf honors. The procession of winning long shots began with Egotist at 20 to 1 and wound up with Knight Deck at t! to 1. The fateful summary included Exchequer, S to 1. Altamor. 15 to 1, Booger Bed. 7 to 1, and Bock-stone at 8 to 1. It was financially the most disastrous afternoons sport the local speculatively inclined race-going public has experienced this season. The, defeat and unplacing of Tim Sullivans Sarn-cinesca without mishaps or excuses of any kind in the second race was a staggering blow to the plunging contingent. In fact, every liorse in every race was seemingly striving for all he was worth to gain one of the coveted positions at the finish. Figent. favorite in the closing race, inay have been a single exception. Unlike the other five favortes the bettiug on Jones fiilly had an unhealthy asiecr. The Todd Handicap was the only feature and relieved the card from hopeless mediocrity. It was over1 the live-furlongs course and engaged some of the fastest sprinters in training, including Jeanne dArc, Smiley Corbett, Pajaroita. Booger Bed, Spooner, Trois Temp and five others. The winner turned up in the lightly weighted Booger Bed after si hotly contested struggle through the stretch with the favorite. Smiley Corbett. Jeanne dArc failed dismally, as did Spooner under his light impost of ninety-five pounds. For the cuppy going and in comparison with the other races, the time. seconds, was phenomenally fast. James Boden arrived from Santa Anita today with Gowan, Botanist, John Bice, Gene Wood and Pnn-de-Oro. Steve Lawlor placed Gowan In Mr. Bodens care temporarily. She will be started in the 1ig New Year Handicap, unless rain intervenes. Firestone, an eligible in the same stake, worked well between races this afternoon. CStartcr Dwyer inflicted a three-day suspension on CS. Russell for misbehavior at the jost on Sain-posal. Mr. Dwyers starting for the past month lias been uniformly good and satisfactory. Hie legislature convenes next Saturday. The Antl-Itacing League has . prepared two bills for .xjmultsiueous presentation in the senate and as-enmbry. In the matter of adverse racing legislation Thomas II. Williams has no fears for the outcome. He said today that the California legislature contained a sulticient number of good and liberal-minded sportsmen who could be depended upon to save the great .sport.
