i i i I CANADAS NEW SCALE OF WEIGHTS. Heretofore Canadian racing has been conducted in parr under Jockey Club rules and in part under th" rules of the western governing organizations, but now Canada has devised and adopted rules of its own. The scale of weights is a compromise, somewhat heavier than the American Turf Associa tlons scab- and slightly lighter than the Jockey Clubs. for example. Ihe Male at a mile for May. the month in which Canadian racing begins, calls for los pounds on a three-year-old. 124 on a four year-old and 12T on five-year-olds and over. Indcr Jarfcpv Club rules the weights at the same distance are Intl. 121. and 129 pounds and under American Turf Association rules loii. 122 and 121 pounds. 1 he tint race scale for May and June, whicli will prevail at ihe Woodbine and Montreal meetings, is as follows: Mav. For steeplechases of less distance than three miles the weights arc. from January 1 be August 31. in clnsivi : Four-vear-olds 14.r Five year olds 18* Six ear-olds and over Ml At three miles and over the weights are. from January 1 to August St, inclusive: Ionr-veai -olds MB Five ve.tr olds 137 Six -year-olds and over 1M hut no horse will be allowed to carry less than 120 pounds. In so far as the new scale affects the Plate weights, it puts he three and touryear-ohls two pounds up from the old arrangement, and the older horses one pound. The weights for two and three rear-old raeea are as before, ns is the allowance for se. In the Canadian-bred allowance there is an addition of two pounds granted Ihe two and three vear-olds. which are now to receive seven pounds from foreign bred horses. Above three years the allow ance is the old one of five pounds.
