DEATH OF JOCKEY BRUSSEL. New York. May 7— Jockey Brussel died in his Brooklyn home Thursday from pneumonia. He had onlv been sick for fortv-eiglit hours and the disease followed a cold he contracted attending a birthday party. Brnosel was twenty-one years of age and since his recent retirement from tlie saddle was in the silk business. He was developed from an excreta liov to a iockov bv Peter Whinner, but most of his riding was in the silks of Herman B. Duryea. While iu the employ of Mr. Duryea. Brussel, though never rated I top-notchor. was a skillful lad. and at all times any mistakes he made could never he charged to his not always trying for all he was worth. He became very heavy last season anil his usefulness in the saddle was gone before th" end of tlie racing season, during which he rode fifteen win mis out of .".is mounts. In 1007 Brussels record was fortv-four wins out of mm mounts.
