HOUSTON CLOSES DOORS TO VIEW RACING. Houston. Tex.. May 14.— Today was Houston Day al the races and all business was suspended at one p. in., with the result that the largest attendance of tin- pre seal meeting was on hand to enjoy the snort. Six evenly balanced races made up the card, tin-lecture of which was the Houston Day Special. Ike fourth race at three -quarters of a mile in which Dr. Mack aud Copporneld were heavily hacked. The former was returned a winner in a terrific stretch duel with Pedro, which just failed to get up in a sensational closing rush. The other races wile close and interesting, the finishes in the first three races being on the sensational order. Specula! ion vas heavy and the public fared well with thiee favorites and one second choice winning. Jockev Hollister captured the crowd with his good work m the saddle, riding tores winners and one second out of live mounts. Penilergast also rode well, with two winners to his redit.
