GOOD BROOKLYN HANDICAP NOMINATIONS. Celt and King James Among the Cracks Entered — Maakette to Run Thursday. New York. May 17. — Nineteen entries have been received tor the Brooklyn Handicap, the first of the masons big mile and a quarter handicaps. The starters will make one of the best fields of £robable orses that has ever started in its long history. Those named to go at the present writing are King James. Restigouche. Montgomery. Joe Madden and KHz Herbert, belonging to S. C. Hildreth: Barney Schrelbers Jack Atkin: August Belmont enters Half Sovereign aad Field Mouse: James R. Keene, Turn coat. Celt. Affliction and Hilarious; J. K. Madden. Fayette; S. Kmerv. Master Robert. Besides, there are Brother Jonathau. High Private. Frank Gill. Wise Mason and Berkeley. Despite the paucity of nominations it is thought that the field will be nuniericiillv as strong as in other and more prolific Mars. Every entry named may be sent to the itost in the great Brooklyn Jockey Club feature. Late nominations delayed lit the mails may swell the foregoing list materially. The weights will be an noiinced May 25. the race liolng down for declsiou on June 3. Celt. King James. Fayette and Master Robert probably outclass any opposition that will be mustered against them and if only this redoubtable quarter starts. Gravescnds opening day feature will lie a race worth going a long way to see. King James victory in the Metropotttra supplies an nn-erring line on his form. Celt, considered the equal, if not the superior of Colin, his unbeaten stabbmate now in England, has been going along satisfactorily in his work and Is the best horse entered. Fayette is conceded by all to be the best three-year old in the country, while Master Robert i* said to lie a wonderfully improved horse this season. Maskette. considered a certainty tor the Ladies St.-kes Thursday, cantered a trial mile this morning in 1 :4.i. running the reverse way of the yearling track at Hheepahead Bay. her stableinatc. Affliction, going along for company. She will probably be op posed by Held Mouse. Lady Bedford. Mauviette and Twilii. ut Uueen. During the morning Celt worked one mile and one-quarter. Btherlal went five-eighths in l:i:: and I.asata a mile in 1:43. Walter Miller is expected to sail for England next Saturday to ride there under the direction of Thomas McCreery.
