PEINCE IMPEEIAL ISPBOMISING Is Training in Manner Suggesting He Will Prove Useful ThrecYearOld Work of Eastern Horses New York March 25 Prince Imi erial and Pretend are a pair of threeyearolds that arc being fitted for the races by Thomas Welsh at Gravesend that are likely to sustain the reputation of the Brooklyn Jocke Club course as a winter training ground Welsh has by long odds the most pretentious stable at Gravesend and while many of the horses In his care may nat be seen under colors l cfore the Bel ¬ mont Park meeting and perhaps not until later thsse two three3earolds are meant for an earlier try judging by the way in which they are being trained Yesterday in company with the older horses Wise Mason and The Squire the two threeyearolds went along for fiveeighths in 111 and while the time does not compare with some of the work over the same ground the manner in which tbc task was accomplished was exceedingly impressive and indi ¬ cated that had it been required they could have shown much more speed Prince Imperial did not come east until late last season but he showed enough in his races to merit respect and he is likely to be one of the truly good threeyearolds of 1B10 Pretends races were promising and it is a question if he was not a better colt than his best perform ¬ ances as a twoyearold would show on paper In his twoyearold division Welsh has a magnificent lot in training and while they have not been asked to show anything sensational up to this time they are all shaped up like colts that could furnish a surprise if permitted Those in the younger division shown yesterday were Royal Meteor Ariosto Mutineer and Danger Mark all of the Newcastle Stable StableFrank Frank Taylor worked the champion FItz IIert ert a quarter in 28 over the Gravesend track The hand ¬ some son of Ethclbcrt is taking on flesh as ha trains which is a peculiarity of his that has made him a particularly sturdy campaigner All last year when lie was meeting and beating all comers he carried a great deal of llesih and when at his best was heavier 1 y many pounds than when he first appeared under colors after his season in California Adriuche Is one that Taylor will show in the early races and she has been doing all that has been asked of her in a satisfactory manner mannerRockstone Rockstone has1 been showing quite some speed lately and he is another that will undoubtedly come out of retirement in the early days of the Aqueduct meeting Frank Weir sent him fiveeighths In yesterday and the old fellow was fighting for Jlis head every foot of the vay eWgl OIcHnvnibeon liand liandal al Aqueduct with a useful lot of horses His operations at Sheepshead Bay have been eminently satisfactory and every horse in his stable Is beginning to look fit to race Nimbus gives promise of being as good as he ever was His four twoyearolds romped along behind Nimbus for threeeighths in 40 hard held all through the move Prince Gal Trance Bonnie Kelso Follie Lev and Traveller were others that were shown in improving exercises exercisesTrainer Trainer C F Clark is the latest arrival at Belmont Park He was associated for a long time with Rob ert Smith in the handling anil management of Turn ¬ coat Zacalecas and Shapdale in recent years and the good handicap horse Articulate of other days This year he only has Lord Stanhope which horse was turned out at Huntington L I during the winter Trainer Clark is of the opinion that Lord Stanhope will train and race satisfactorily this season
