BETTING CASE IN ENGLISH COURT COURTEnglish English papers rejwrt a law case before Jus ¬ tice Channell in the Kings Bench Division in which a Iwokmaker sued a client to recover 312 which the client owed as the result of betting with him at Sundown Park An action directly to recover money wagered would not lie as the defendant can always plead the gaming act and evade payment under its protection In this case it was claimed that the original debt was 37S of which the customer paid 1V and undertook to pay the balance in con ¬ sideration of the bookmaker refraining for a certain time from commencing action The suit was brought under this alleged agreement for for ¬ bearance as the money had not been paid at the ex ¬ piration of the time The court found that the agreement was not proven and the judgment was for the defendant A fact brought out in the hear ¬ ing was that the bookmaker was also a sidesman of bis parish church
