Louisville. Kv.. May 10.— Francis Nelson, sporting . editor of tlie Toronto Olobe and presiding judge at the Woodbine. Fort Kile and .Montreal tracks, who came here to see the running of the Kentucky Derby, gave the following inn-resting interview in 1 relation to Canadian racing affairs: "The racing situation in Canada Is very bright, said he. "The law recently passed by the Canadian Parliament limiting meetings to seven days, with twenty davs intervening between meetiugs. and legalizing betting at file race tracks in any form, . is all that the racing interests of our country wanted, with the exception that we would have . , been pleased to have had as many as ten days at some of the tracks. But the law is a good one. Bacing will thrive under it and it will not be repealed or tampered witii in our time. It is eminently satisfactory throughout the land. "It is intended that the pari-uiiituel system of .- betting shall lie adopted at all Canadian tracks in time. Tlie Ontario Jockey Club will put the m* chines into operation at the fall meeting. That has * been settled upon. Tile smaller tracks will come into line promptly. Aside from a desire to see the running of the Kentucky Derby tomorrow it is part 1 of my mission to Louisville to observe the operation of tlie machines at Churchill Downs and to gather expressions from tlie officials of this track and of the i Lexington track concerning the details in a financial way under the machine system. ••The Ontario Jockey Club has a surplus of $:.."i0.-000 i and now that the lacing law has been set upon the statute liooks of the Dominion, it will soon be gin the construction of its new plant. The land has s been purchased on the heights to the east of Toronto 0 and the site is aUiut four miles from Woodbine , track. It is a beautiful location and it is intended ! to establish thereon the finest racing enclosure on this side of the Atlantic ocean."
