FITZ HERBERT FOR THE METROPOLITAN. New York. May 10. — Fits Herliert will start in n the Metropolitan Handicap ou Friday. John E. I. be 1. ic on n . in n E. I. Madden savs of him: "Fitz Herbert Is in first rate condition. His three-quarters of a mile trial in 1:18 at Gravesend the other day was a first-class aerCaraaaace. Be worked the lirst tive-eighths in 1:01 without half trying ami went right on. I am of the opinion that be could have worked a mile in 1:41 or thercatxiuts. l am well pleased with the way Fitz Herbert is training this year, llu has improved steadily under slow work and be is as ready to go a mile as is any horse in the Metropolitan. The handlcapper has assigned top weight to Fitz Herbert, but I cannot quarrel aUlut that. Mv horse was the smartest three-year-old in the country last season and it is customary to weight the best three ear old of one year away up in the handicaps of tin next.-
