BRIGHT OUTLOOK FOR YONKERS MEETING. Something of the Reasons That Impelled Transfer of Brighton Dates to Empire City. .New York. Juno 27. — The arrangement by which the Brighton Beach dates have Im-oii translerretl lo the Empire City Baring Assoc hit ions track In Yon-kers. wucrc the horsemen will have twenty-six consecutive days of s|M»rt prior io the opening of tin-Saratoga mooting, is a source of general aattsfacttoa among race-goers. W. A. Engenian. president of the Brighton Beach Baring Association, will be financially Interested in the meeting to he held under James Butlers auspices in vVcsteiicstor. l-ast March, lour of the Jockey clubs tracks ■aahi interests to keep racing alive and tor inutuej protection. Empire City. Brighton. Aqueduct and Jamaica are in this biisiness-lik • eoinhinal ion. When the season opened on April 15 at Aqueduct with a twehe-days meeting, it was possible tinder this pooling of mierests. lo transfer the Jamaica meeting to that race course. ■o that tvvcntv four consecutive days were used at 1". J. Dwycrs track. Thou followed the usual meetings at Belmont Park. Cravosend and Shoopshead Bay. "the big tracks." but with the Corny island .l«M:key Clubs session conies the end of racing in Kings County. The Brighton Beach management arranged a dozen or more stakes fir the f.uirteen days albftud by the Jockey Clubs stewards, but under the existing eon-i.itious the pooled interests reaehoil the conclusion that a shift lo Yonkiis would bo advisable. 1 he Brighton track is partially dismantled and would have lo undergo extensive repairs, including the eonstriiotio.i of near stables, to conduct a running mooting on the proper scale. Fourteen days did not amount to much under these conditions at the Beach. while twelve days at Yonkers looked even less inviting. It was believed Hull with only two days at Yonkers horsemen could not he induced to ship their stable* there, either Irom the west or from Long Island, whereas the naolcil interests are positive thai twenty-six days at Empire City with the Brighton stakes taken over will prove a magnet of unusual power. So. with the consent of the Jockey Club. Empire City has taken over the Brighton dates and will raie Irom July ." to August .!. inclusive. Then will aw twenty one days at Saratoga, after which nobody at present seems to know exactly what will happen. There is no doubt, horsemen say. that a long mooting at Empire City will prove remarkably successful. There is plenty of stable room, as Ceiieral Manager Winn has made extensive additions in this respect. The track, a mile in circumference, is one of the fastest in this country, and the facilities for training horses are up to date. President Butler of the Empire City Kacing Association recently purchased for ¥to.o H» the plot of ground extending from the clubhouse to Ihe corner id Jerome and Yonkers avenues and has transformed it into a beaatlfal paddock, wiili many shade trees and ample liM.in for Cue saddling and exorcising of the racers. This improvement will make lite Empire City track one of tin- most attractive on the circuit. Tie- transit facilities have been improved since last sinniuei. and with a list of more than twenty well tilled stakes till- public will doubtless he on hand every day in large iiuiiiIh-is. Westehostor was always devoted to the race horse with Jerome Park and Morris Park in existence, so that when these famous courses were razed and Belmont and Empire City supplanted them, flu- interest in the thoroughbred did not lie out. There ate hundreds of followers of racing in Westchester who never visit the I/ong Island tracks and who welcome the annual meeting al Empire City with o|mmi arms. It whs •villi a feeling of disappointment therefore that the announcement of a tw --lve-days session at Yonkers was received last March, but now that twenty-sis days of apart will 1m- provided the old enthusiasm will be kindled. President Butler ami Manager Winn have won the loyal support of the horsemen by making this move. They will provide continuous racing with liberal stakes and parpen and will be satisfied to break ev-n financially. From the day that the Hart-Agnow law against b.Mikmaktmr was passed in BtOS. Messrs. ButW and Winn have fought tooth and nail to keep Empire City on the im.p. With this track a partner in a powerful combination, therefore, racing has been made possible not onlv for the nresent season, but aha in I in lire years. When Empire City winds up on August ::. it will he an easy matter to ship horses from Yonkers lo Saratoga.
