JOHN GRIFFIN II. RESCUED FROM OBLIVION. Detroit. Midi., July 25. — After the recent record-breaking victory of John Grillin II. at Windsor owner D. C. Cottle hugged and kissejl the old horse, and Griffin snuggled up to him and whinnied in response to the care-sos. John Griffin II. is one of the sensational horses of the year. At eight years of age be came from the bushes, and has about a dozen victories to his credit within the past seven or eight months, liesides being second and third many times. His history is a curious one. and it was only because of bis merit as a race borne that his pedigree was eventually establish* 0 after much research and the horse registered for recognized racing. Ilis present owner found tlie horse drawing a buggy for a minister in Texas and. knowing bin to be a thoroughbred, offered to train him. Tin- minister refused, but offered to sell the horse for 50. He Cba/ured owners ami became famous as the "Texas wonder."
